Although I practically pass through Burke road everyday to get to the train station, I have never been or noticed this restaurant until my sister told me about it recently. Located near Sofia's restaurant is where this quaint Japanese restaurant resides. The menu is simple and traditional but some dishes do have a very unique twist, which I appreciate.
Cute decorations within this lovely place.
Ordered their ice green tea which was very refreshing indeed though a tad sweet, but who's complaining?
We ordered tons of starters.. From Takoyaki (octopus balls).. which was pleasant but not the best I have tasted..
To Miso Grilled eggplants.. so juicy, and slightly charred, not too oily, sweet and salty at the same time, absolutely gorgeous.
And to the unique okonomiyaki (Japanese savoury pancakes), which had some cheese in it (I think), and a generous serving of sauce on top, and filled with all kinds of ingredients (didn't bother identifying them), but wow, a good rendition from the traditional ones. Crispy outer, and soft inner. Order it when you're there dining, guarantee it to be a crowd pleaser.
To the tangy, tender and succulent beef tataki.. consume it with the garnishes on top.. LOVELY.
Chicken Karaage, very crispy, and tasty... but not as good in comparison to the other dishes.
Grilled ox tongue, I love the sauce.. although some bits were a bit tough to chew through.. but overall, not bad I would say.
To get some fibre into the system, we ordered the seaweed salad.. beautifully seasoned and well balanced.
To sushi rolls, we had the soft shell crab roll and the spicy tuna roll.. honestly, by the time we got to this dish, we were pretty full, so can't really give a fair judgement..but it was alright, won't call it splendid though..
Spicy tuna roll..
However, I loved the unagi roll, served majestically, and fresh.
Then it was onto the main dishes.. DON't ask me why I ordered so much.. both salmon dishes... think I could lay off salmon for awhile.
Don't quite know the names of these dishes since it was recommended by the waitress..
In my opinion, both salmon dishes were slightly overcooked, would have preferred it to have a more reddish centre! But taste was still great. By the time we got to the main courses, we were absolutely struggling to swallow any food down. So forgive me if I can't provide an appropriate review.

Verdict: Preferred their starters more than their mains.. but overall, still a pleasant dining experience. Thought there were quite understaffed for a Saturday night, only two waitress serving the floors. However, they were both still very friendly and carried out their duties to the best of their ability. To me, the stand out dish that night was the okonomiyaki, very different from the traditional ones, although also very filling. Give their beef tataki a try too! It's greatly recommended.
